f150 engine crossmember help bad

Default f150 engine crossmember help bad

i just got screwed in a trade i got the guy told me his truck needs a steering adj so i figure thats easy so we trade trucks go to fix it and noticed he screwed me cause it didnt need adj it needed a new crossmember cause its cracked and when you turn it splits open insted of turning the wheel all the way
my question is can you replace that engine crossmember i was told it was rivited in if it bolted in i was thinking i could just put another one in i saw bolts every where so im guessing thats what it is

its a 92 302 4x4

Sorry to hear about your inherritad issues. Would assume the cracked member is from an accident. I would hope there is a link to vehicles that are insurance (totalled). Keep us posted.

i didnt see any signs of damage from a wreck everything is str8 on it i just need to know if it swapable

Is the lift welded to the crossmember? Probably not because that's what makes them crack. Mine looks riveted on so it can be changed.

Mine was cracked when I bought it... I took a jack a comealong hammers got it back in place bought some 1/4 in steel n welded it together

it probably cracked from the stress of offroading since its lifted and you can either weld it together or replace it. both options work fine. if its riveted then you need to grind them off and replace them with bolts when you replace the cross member. bolts are better than rivets and 87-96 f150's are notorious for the rivets on the frame snapping and a cracked engine cross member isn't that rare with your truck either. not that bad of a problem though, just fix it and you'll be fine
