Default Exhaust/Sensor question.

Ok, so I want to run my truck with just headers and no additional exhaust. However, I'm worried about there being o2 sensors (and/or others that I dont know about, YET), I don't want my truck to run like ****, but at the same time, I really want it louder and to breathe better. I guess my question is, are there any sensors past the header? And if there are, how can I bypass them without making my engine suffer? It's already close to being on its last leg anyway.

You do realize just how loud it will be right? As in you probably won't hear your radio anymore. Also those header will exit right next to the trans and stand a good chance of frying stuff. At a minimum you should at least connect some straight pipe and angle the tips down just before the trans cross member.

What year is your truck and what engine is in it?

Carbon monoxide poisoning isn't fun. The exhaust must exit after the cab.

This man speaks the truth. If your gonna run just headers you might was well just stick your mouth them and breathe.

Not only us that idea stupid its dangerous. If you want loud then straight pipe it with side exit or something

87 half ton with the 5.0
However, I know 3 people that run straight headers and they have nver said anything about carbon monoxide poisoning, though I would like learn more. What exactly are my options? Could I make it exit the sides under the doors?

atleast put a short exhaust on it to get it past the cab or out the sides behind the cab. and the only sensors are in the headers i believe on a 87.

There's only 1 sensor on the 87 and it needs to read the exhaust from both sides of the engine. This means you need to run a cross pipe of some sort so it can read what it wants to see. That means the running straight out of the header ain't gonna work.

Just add some tubing. It'll eliminate the risk of CM poisoning and give you a little bit of backpressure just get 2.25in tubing with some kickouts after your headers

Very good point. Headers to an x pipe with the o2 sensor in the x pipe would be a solid setup and then just run some tubing out after. Itll still be super loud and give you some more torque
