Engine swap question
Hello everyone,
I need to swap an engine in my 89 Ford F150. I have a 4wd 4.0L Straight 6. If I buy a new engine... Does it have to be specific to 4wd or will any 89 f150 engine work? Also, I can't remember if its air in head or air in manifold.
One more thing.. I had a fuel pressure regulator go out. The mechanic told me that the truck flooded so much that the gas diluted the oil and that's why the engine started knocking... Is this something that can happen?

The engine doesn't have to be from a 4x4, and it doesn't have to be from an '89. If you're going to a junkyard to get one they will know what years are a direct bolt in, but I don't know myself.
Yes, that can happen to your truck.

Is it a 300ci? Not up on metric crap, if it is, any year will fit, 240\300 60's to 90's, no such thing as a vehicle specific short block w\ head, just the intake and exhaust for different vehicles.
I'm assuming he wants to just drop the engine in and not have to swap manifolds, intakes, and heads. When I went looking for a head for my '87 they asked if the smog tubes were in the head or manifold, so that's one difference. Also, earlier engines has less intake/exhaust bolt holes on the head but that was pre-fuel injection motors.
Yes, the blocks should be the same, at least from '87-'96 as far as I know. Pre fuel injection engines usually have other differences, like a spot for a mechanical fuel pump. There might have been other castings added for some sensors too but I'm not sure.
