Electrical Problem HELP! :)
Drove truck home last night, woke up this morning turned on my truck and drove to the end of the street and i noticed my speedometer was not working and the digital odometer was not displaying and the truck was not shifting right... issue probably related... then when i parked my truck, turned it off to look under the hood... noticed that the fusible link from the solenoid to the fender was popped... got back in my truck to start it and the ABS light started flashing and would not let me take it out of park... at this point i realized the dome lights and cargo lights also were out... check all fuses, they were good... dash lights also fine, except no odometer display... went to replace fusible link and it keeps popping the fuse when i plug battery back in... Any ideas???? LOL!
Speedometer sends a signal to the computer which affects shifting. Speedometer and ABS sensor are the same so yes, these things are related. If I can think of anything else helpful I'll let you know.
Also, if you didn't know, your brake lights aren't working. That's why it won't come out of park. To get it in gear, turn the key forward but not on, put it in neutral and then start it. Anytime you shift it back into park you'll have to shut it off and do it again.
It should work as long as you don't turn the ignition on. Just one click forward, no idiot lights on, then neutral. It's like a fail safe so you can still get it in gear if there are problems.
If the fuseable link keeps blowing, there may be a short somewhere. I am no electrical guru, so I can't suggest where. If nobody here has any suggestions, you could take it to a shop that specializes in automotive electrical repair. There is a shop near me like that and they do great work.
Briefly staring at the trucks wiring diagram, I would say that based on the link that keeps blowing, the really could be a short anywhere but I would double check fuse 11 (20A) and Fuse E (15A Ima gonna guess that one is under the hood) and if nothing there I might recommend getting codes read off of your PCM and see if it throws alot of codes that are off of one branch of itself this may help to point you in the direction of the short.

If it's frying the link it won't be anything on a fuse. The fusible link protects the main feed to other circuits, the short is before the fuse box. If it was after the fuses, the fuse would blow before the link.
ISSUE RESOLVED! turns out the screws in the dome light housing are too long and it can create a short because the space between the top of the roof and the inside cab is not very thick! Installed shorter screws. Appearently Ford has a technical bulliten about it
