Default EGR Loop

Ok, so I have this new neat Scan Guage thing that I have mounted on my dash and it displays all kinds of cool info that comes from the OBD2.
One of the catergories is open/closed EGR loop. Well I have noticed that the truck starts in open loop then after about ten seconds or so the loop goes to close and does not open back up (even when lightly cruising) until I mash the gas all the way down. Then it opens and will close right after I let off. My EGR is going backwards I have replaced the actual valve (a couple months ago), the pressure feedback sensor, and the EGR vacuum solenoid. What else could it be?

OPEN loop, if using the same terminology as an O2 sensor, means the feedback system is OFF, or in the case of EGR, probably means the EGR is closed. CLOSED loop means the EGR is functioning and the ECU is getting feedback information about valve position. Think of 'open' and 'closed' like terminology of a circuit, and not the position of the EGR valve. I have no idea why they would label it like that, but it's the only thing that makes any sense. If indeed your EGR was working opposite of what it was supposed to, your truck would be running like utter crap.

Normal!...or OUEGRF (Operator unfamiliar w/ EGR Function). Sounds like a neat toy though! What other tricks does it have in it's bag?

I like that, that really makes sense thank you. However, the only problem then is that it is "open" or EGR valve is actually closed for about 10 seconds after start up, then it goes to "closed" and never goes back to "open" at idle ever again. This is what is confusing me.

Yes the gauge is really cool, here is a link to it.

It has a built in scanner too which is nice you don't have to go somewhere to get your codes read.

Yea, it's supposed to work like that.
