is there any way to actually test the computer in these trucks, or just look for obvious signs and possibly replace?? ive had a few problems and im starting to see signs of what i think may mean a bad computer. need a little advice.

There is a way, but you have to have a pin box (?) kit or something like that to test it. Essentially, it's just an adapter to plug into the computer between the wiring harness that comes out of it, if that makes any sense. Then you test the voltage at the different pins. What issues are you having?

simple way to test is pull the codes... disconnect the battery and retest...

if it still persist than try another ECM... find one locally at a junk yard

Basically, if you can't get codes it's bad.

well, i stopped getting codes so......yeah. fuel pump stays on. and now it wont fire. it has fire coming from the coil. but nothing at the plugs. and the injectors only shoot fuel when the truck feels like it. ive tried 2 other computers in this truck in the last week, and it dont change. so i dont know if i somehow have 3 bad brains or what. i was thinking mybe i should check out the ecm grounds before i go drop money on a brand new one. but i dont exactly know where to look as far as checking the wiring to the thing. i figured if the computer was bad, something different would happen when i tried another one. nothing. so i got one out of my friends truck. the truck this last one came from ran, just had a bad trans. and i got the fuel pump a couple weeks back. but the computer was def good before i got ahold of it. so, im thinking maybe wiring or somethin somewhere. i have all the signs of a dead ecm, but like i said, ive tried 3 now, and nothing different. one was mine, one from a junk yard truck, and one from a truck that i know runs. nothin. im lost. any thoughts?

Yeah, without codes it can also be wiring or a fuse instead of the computer.
