Default E40D Swaps with what ?

I was told that there is another tranny, maybe better, that i could swap with my e40d, if it turns out that it is no good, and not my rear diff.... If this is the case...

Do they make a stronger or better one, that will bolt on to a 1990 f150 4x4 5.0 ?

I see some people saying they have "c-6" and not e40d tranny's, have these people swapped with those better ones ?

The C-6 is a three speed automatic from the 60s. improved over the years yes, but still a three speed. Its beefy, and made for towing. The E4OD is a four speed automatic electric transmission, where you can electronically switch the OD (over drive) off on the dash. That was the biggest baddest automatic offered in the F150 for our years, if I am wrong somebody correct me.

As far as automatics, these trucks came with C4, C5, C6, AOD, and E4OD. The E4OD is the only one electronically controlled and if you swap it out with something else the computer will miss it. What I mean is the computer will see it's not getting any readings from it and light the check engine light, or at least store transmission codes. Changing to one of the other trannys will be a bit of work, needing all or some of the following: driveshaft, crossmember, kickdown cable or rod and attaching mechanisms, computer if you don't want the check engine light problem, and anything else I'm forgetting.

So much for that idea, if there was a direct bolt on swap i would do it... but not if anything else is involved... Pray to buda tomorrow its just my rear diff thats broke.

you can put all the clutches from a f-250 or 350 diesel into the E4OD without any problems, I have heard of people doing this with the 5.8 that were built. Reading up on it the 150 uses larger metal plates and fewer clutch disks in them.
