Default Dumping fuel

So I was sitting in the parking lot today talking on the phone when I got out there was a strong smell of fuel and a huge puddle of it under the truck!!! It was coming from the front tank filler tube from under the cap... I had the truck using the rear tank... I switched to the front tank and the pump started to whine so I switched it back to the rear then the front again and the whining stopped... The gas stopped dumping slowly... They are brand new tanks and pumps... I don't have a back-flow valve I know the rear tank dumps gas into the front tank but never thought it would over fill it... So my question is will a back-flow valve stop this or is it something else???

Yes a check valve kit will fix that. If I'm not careful mine overfills too.

Do you have to drop the tank to instal this?

Nope just installs on the fuel line to the pump.
