Default Dinging!

Does anyone know how to cut off the dinging that the ignition makes when the key is left in it? This is extremely annoying when you are constantly shutting off and getting out for just a second.

I am not sure what year your truck is or options or anything. This was covered somewhere before. I did the same thing. Look under the dash under the HVAC controls and you will see a wire harness go into a small black box. If memory serves it is closer to the driver's side then the passenger side. Unplug and tuck away the harness and it should now be silent when the key is in. Be warned though, it will NOT remind you to turn off the lights anymore. I found this out the hard way with a dead battery!

You are welcome!

I don't know if it will stop the horn. I don't think so, but thinking about it, i have not tried the horn since I did this last summer.

If you just want to stop the dinging when the doors open, you can disconnect the switch at the door. It is a little more difficult. And not easily undo able.

It has been a while since I looked at the wiring. But you maybe able to trace the wire from the door switch to the black box wire harness. Then try to remove it from the harness. However this may have the effect of creating an open, and thus making the dinging constant. Even if the doors are closed.

Like I said I did this mod last summer. I have only left the lights on once. I find the best way to check is to look back when walking away from the truck. Just to be sure the lights are off. However it has been great not hearing the dinging noise every time I get in! The pros outweigh the cons!

Just a note on my truck it's a blue box attached to a smaller black box and a grey harness with about 8-10 wires. Easiest way is to take a flathead and pry up the lip and pull out the harness. Just a little heads up for those with big hands that can't get to the harness. I also have a 96 extended cab I don't know if it's different.

You think it would be the same on a 94?
