Default Dash Lights Problem

So, when I got my truck it had a 6 disc cd changer in it. I took it out and put my pioneer stereo in. Ended up having a short and blew a bunch of fuses when I tried turning my dash lights on one night. I got the wiring fixed and replaced all the fuses that were blown. Only thing wrong now is my dash light dimmer. The only way they will come on is if I turn the **** all the way untill the spot were it clicks to turn the dome light on. Right before the dome light turns on the dash lights come on and will stay on. I have to do this every time. Its not exactly urgent, just very annoying. If anyone has suggestions as to what might be wrong, I'd greatly appriciate it.
Thanks, John

Hey, I'll look into it. Its at least a place to start right? Thanks for the suggestion. Only thing I could figure was fuses but I checked them all probably four or five times. Is there another bulb back there for the dimmer setting that might have burnt out? Thanks again!

I dont know if there is another bulb or not, but I just went out and check my dimmer switch and it is doing the same thing that yours is doing.

Well, I will look in to the light switch and check all my fuses agian. Might try calling up a few shops tomorrow and see if I can get some more information. I'll let you know what I find out and if I find any solutions.

So, I double checked my fuses. Not sure if this is the solution but one of my 15A fuses was aslo blown. It kept my dome light from coming on when the doors were open. Like I said, I'm not sure if this is also the fuse for the dimmer mode on dash lights, but I switched it out with a good fuse. Its currently too bright to see if the dash lights are on at all. I'll post once it gets dark enough to test and let you know if it worked.

Dash light fuse is fed by the tail light fuse, so both fuses have to be good for the dash lights to work.

So, replaced the fuse and dash light dimmer still doesn't work. I'm pretty sure my tail lights are working, but I'll have to double check. Where would the tail light fuse be located? Is it in the same fuse box or somewhere else? I've called a few shops and most of them have told me I have to bring it in so they can look at it. I'll try to get ahold of a few more local shops and see if any can help without charging to look at it. Any more suggestions, advice or information would be greatly appriciated. Thanks again for the help.
