Type F. Should also say so in your owners manual. AutoZone can look it up and tell you the same. Ford used ATF for their power steering for years and probably still do.

Thanks for replies.

Dang all the confusion on this.

There appear to be two main schools of thought. Seems some folks say ordinary "power steering fluid" does everything Type F does but reduces friction and is better for the seals but some folks say Type F is mandatory

The Ford dealership recommended ordinary PSF, the manual recommended Type F, many folks swear by ordinary PSF, Adv Auto says Type F, some folks say if not using Type F will pump will burn up, some folks say doesn't matter! Dang...

Dude go with type F. That is what was in it when it rolled off the assy line. That is what the manual calls for. And that is what it was engineered for.

Thanks for reply. Yes, I'd have to agree.

From all the reading I've done (and what a mess the subject seems to be ) I'd have to say Type F seems to be the safest bet. Nuthin' fancy but the safest bet.

Thanks highly for input one and all,

It doesn't matter. I use Dextron/Mercon. Book says type F.
