Default cutting out

my 95 f150 xlt 5.0 shut off twice last week while taking off from a stop light but fired back up. the past two days on the way home from work it has cut out on me without shutting down at about 45 - 55mph. the rpms just drop all the way to about 500 for about 3 seconds and then all is well. when i pull the codes it flashes 111 and then 211. the 111 is not in my manual and the 211 indicates pip circuit failure. can anyone tell me what the 111 indicates and are these two codes related and where to start to resolve the 211 code?

The 111 is the same as 11 - system pass. The 211 must be the issue, but I have no idea what a PIP is... I'm sure that someone will come along to give you better insight on that.

Are you sure you read the codes right? It took me several times to figure out the timing between blinks using the CEL. Not to say you don't know what you're doing (that would be more like me!) but the symptoms sound a lot like the EGR issues I've been having recently.

The EGR codes could be 32, 33, or 34, which depending on the timing of flashes, might actually be the code you're getting.

The PIP sensor is the profile ignition pickup sensor, located in the distributor. It gives the ignition module the signal to fire for each cylinder. With the way it's acting it sounds like a loose plug or wire to the sensor. Check the connections at the distributor.

Thanks guys. I will check all the above mentioned. I see these trucks everywhere so I know they are dependable. Its just chasing down the problems when they come that makes you want to pull your hair out.
