Default Cruise Control

I thought I would post here too, I have the post in General discussion thought maybe more people would see here.

Ok, I 've worked under the hood in my time quite a bit but this department I know squat. Never have had to mess with it on any vehicle. My 95F150 4x4 when I bought it with 80,000 on it the cruise never did work at all. I never cared to use it anyway but since I'm going to be selling it soon I thought it would be best to have it fixed since everything else on the truck works fine. WHat are things that could be wrong with it? When you push any of the buttons to set the cruise there is nothing showing on dash to even indicate its on. The cruise won't set either. Anyone that could educate me on this what steps I need to take to try and fix this or what could be wrong I'm open ears.

You should have a cruise control switch on your master cylinder. Usually there is no light indicator on your dash when you activate your cruise control...at least my '96 doesnt...so you may not have a problem there. I would check your cruise control switch on your master cylinder. There was a recall on many of our ford trucks for that switch malfunctioning, and even burning. I wrote a post on it with pics and everything. If you do a search you might find it and it has pictures what it looks like before and after i changed it out. At least then you will be able to see what the switch looks like. That's a start at least. Hope it helps

I had that replaced when the recall was posted. Never worked after that either.

ok cool well it might be your control switch inside the actual steering wheel. But before that you should check to see if the fuse is blown. open up the fuse panel that is located just below the steering wheel to the left. There should be a diagram on the actual panel that shows what fuse controls what. There is one for your cruise control. Hope that helps

Ok, checked the fuse on the dash its fine. Question I have is the part on the master cyldr. The harness from the recall that plugs into the part that sits on the master cyldr. Whats is that called? Could it be bad?

This is very interesting, was in conversation earlier about a high mount brake light being changed from normal to LED and now the cruise wouldn't work. Might want to take a look at it. go to find posts by Bucko.

Find the original thread by Wicked FX4 and view the story. A very interesting answer might be out there to answer alot of problems.

Very interesting indeed. Ya know what? On my 95 I never even new if that cab light on the outside was a brake light or not, never paid any attention to it. Guess I will have to check..

Ok, so my 95 does have the cab brake light, factory with regular bulb, all works well. Still no cruise. Still would like to know what the harness on MC is plugging into.

The harness on the master cylinder is a fusible link (if it was changed for the recall) and could be burned out. I don't know where it gets its power from but it should have power always (if I remember correctly, I don't have diagrams for the cruise control system).
