Default Cracked Frame

Anyone know what to do about a cracked frame? I am thinking about either getting some steel plates and bolting it together or just might find a different frame and replace whole thing.

Do you have life insurance? If so can I be the benefactor?

Replace the frame DO NOT BOLT OR WELD A FRAME!!!!!! I don't care how good you are with metal fabricating or welding it will not be a strong enough bond to trust your life or someone else's life to. I have seen people try this and sure enough they end up breaking in the same spot as the fix was applied to. REPLACEMENT with a good frame is the best option so that you know when you turn that key that the truck will be safe and sound for the ride.

that is true but you can fix it with welding but you need to get it done by a pro with at least 10 years or my experience and even then it cracked for a reason.

I have a welder, but I'm not a welder. I'd weld mine if it cracked, people weld together custom frames all the time.

True but they usually TIG those together and use pieces of steel man. Trying to weld a piece of steel that is cracked is a different animal. There is a reason it has cracked and stress is the likely cause. I will weld a custom frame but I will not weld a cracked frame. That is me though you can do what you want to. I happen to think my life is worth more then 50 cents worth of mig or tig welding.

again it comes to experience i have a welder too but if my frame cracked i would not try and weld it up it all depends on where the frame is cracked and if you are willing to chance it.

It depends on where it is cracked, and probably not in a spot that "might" be worth welding plates on if it cracked. If its between the wheels, I wouldn't. If it was outside I might if the frame isn't rusty, but only with 1/4 with plates on both sides at least 12 inches long. If it was even the least bit rusty( more than surface rust), it will never hold up. Never use bolts period on something like that, shear strength of bolts are like toothpicks when talking about a frame section with enough stress to crack the whole frame.. JMHO.

Where would be the best place for a different frame? Junkyard?
