Cold Air Intake
hey guys i havent posted for a while. School has kept me busy.
Have a question. I just installed a Spectre CAI in my 1996 F150. I connected the MAF sensor and have everything connected EXCEPT the IAT (Intake air temperature) sensor. How important is the IAT sensor for my response time? I cant feel that much of a difference in the response time before and after. Maybe i am paranoid but it seems a little tiny bit slower...or maybe its the same/ better and i am just thinking its slower because I dont have my IAT sensor connected. Any help on this subject is appreciated. heres some pics.
thanks

Dangin from it's wires like that, not sure what it does. But if you were to screw it back in, it would provide the EFI system with air/fuel mixture temperature info. re: density correction to airflow calculations & proportion the cold enrichment fuel flow. I think you should screw it back in . It aught to get along well w/that fancy orange pleaty lookin thing and if your done messin w/stuff that are ECC related you should turn on your headlights & disconnect your battery for 20 mins. to clear your KAM & to rebuild the adaptive strategy learned tables based on your mod to air intake and your IAC sensor actually installed. Then scan check for any codes.
spoken like a true professional. By the way that orange looking coupler is actually red. The sunlight + flash on camera makes it look orange. Yea, The problem is fixed. I had to disconnect the negative battery cable to reboot the system. I Put the IAT sensor right next to the recharge filter. I know K&N has their set up like that as well so it should be fine. She Runs GREAT!!! The response time is really good, and added horsepower is good as well. Thanks for the help.
A quick once over of the BIN file for a Mustang, I assume trucks are similar. The Adaptive fuel tables are only active between 100-200 ACT, the ACT retards timing 2* at 190 and 6* at 240, it increases idle starting at 200* and effects egr flow rate below 56*. It does not seem like it will kill the truck if you don't have it hooked up, but I would think it worth the trouble. I would guess the engine compartment temp (which it is measuring if it is not hooked up) will be higher than the intake air, especially since you just put the cold air intake on.
You might want to make sure you didn't burn that sensor out. I think it works by heating up an element and measures temperature by how much the air cools it. With it not hooked up it was recieving no cooling from the air and may have burnt out.

Nope, It's a thermal resistor exactly like the CTS w/o a brass encasement. It recieves a 5v input from PCM and returns an outptut adjusted by the thermally related resistance it generates. Maybe thinkin MAF sensor?
Yea, I'm not familiar with that sensor but I did remember that one worked that way. Probably is the MAF I'm thinking of. Just wanted to make sure he didn't mess anything up, at least you were here to explain it.
