Default Clunks into Reverse~

I have searched and searched but have not found the answer to my question! I have a 1995 f-150 4x4 and I have noticed that I have a pretty nice clunking when I put it into reverse (even from park or neutral)...tranny fluid is right on level and I haven't found any play in my u-joints.....this is only in reverse that it clunks, everything else is smooth as silk....any ideas would be apprecitaed! Thanks in advance, Randy

Am thinking the engagement into reverse is harsher or faster then it is into forward. I do not know why or if this is adjuctable. Good luck.

is it all the time or just some of the time.... cause on mine its only some of the time and that if you go from d then let it engage then go to r it will make the clunk sound... but i found out that if you have some one go though the drive to the reverse... you can see the drive shaft whip ... then it will grab, so that is what gives the clunk sound on mine... hope it helps

it is mainly noticable when you first start the truck up...seems to do it less when warmed up. i read something about greasing the "slip yoke" not really sure what all that envolves!

Adjust TV pressure to 29- 30 PSI w/ shifter in neutral. this is only for 5L's. 35 PSI is standard for others.

Check Idle speed & your tac might not be accurate. I seem to remember reading that the IAC can effect that, especially if there has been a timing advance.

Toss in a can of Trans Tune by seafoam before your next trans oil change. Helps to run smoother and cooler. I've seen zirc fittings on slip yokes for commercial machinery .Wouldn't hurt to check or even change differential fluid & grease the U's

Good Question! The info @ reducing the TV pressure was from a Ford service bulletin specifically referring to the 5L a/t's, 2 & 4wd's . But it didn't say where to check pressure or to make adjustment of. I have yet to find any reference. If anybody knows, please post info! `
