Default Check Engine light P1074

Ive read all about changing O2 and maf with no results. this code has been up for awhile now and just the other day the temp gauge reaches the L on normal while driving. it always used to run below the half mark. could a worn coolant temp sensor be the root of the code and my warmer engine? ive already replaced egr and cleaned maf...oh ya its a 96 F150 351

Have you checked your coolant level? Your coolant system may need "burped". As far as the code goes, first I would start by checking for air leaks and around the intake manifold.

Coolant level is good and no driveability symptoms, only runs too hot. How do I check for leaks?

Thanks for the help

Is the code a P1074 or P0174? If it is 0174 it means that the oxygen sensor is detecting a lean mixture. This don't mean that the O2 sensor is bad though. If the O2 sensor has been checked or replaced, it just means that you are getting extra air into the intake that is not being metered by the MAF. Spray some carb cleaner around the intake while the engine is running to see if the idle changes. That will indicate a leak.

I have a similar problem. My truck has an error code. I can't remeber what number the code was but it said " system bank to lean" I thought nothing of it till yesterday I was driving in the mountians and all of a sudden my truck starts to run really strong. Can some help diagnoise this? I understand that at sea level I am running to lean. The truck is a 6 cyl with an open element k&n.

Turns out O2 sensor is bad, also head gasket is wearing, coolant detected in exhaust, cracked cyl heads. So I'm getting a rebuild. So if ne1 else has a lean code, check your exhaust. Thanks all for the help
