Default Cheap shifter fix

To get by or it might actually work a while. About 2.00 in plumbing washers, and an old inner tube, the trans is an r5od, the tard who worked on my newly acquired smaller F150 clone, my "R" truck, lost or did not put the bushings or any other proper part in the shifter, hence shifter malfunction, the solution, get a solid 1-1\2x1-1\4 nylon washer for drain pipe, a solid one only, grind outside so it will fit into the shifter hole, chamfer the inside a little to seat the ball, next get a nylon basket strainer to drain "hat" washer, install on top of ball, if ratainer plate still has good boot, reuse, if not get an old inner tube, cut to diameter of retaining plate, I made a retaining ring for the new inner tube boot, bolted together, shifter works perfect, no play, Ford wants about $40 for the boot and bushings, and ebay wants about $30 for the kit, I dont have the money for neither so I thought of this solution, besides I had the stuff laying around my garage so my cost was about 20 mins. in labor.

That's a common problem. Mine doesn't have anything left either except for the shifter. About 6 inches of play side to side.

Well if it works, I can market it and sell it less than ebay or ford, for $9.95 + shipping.

I'm trying to think of the nylon washers you used. I work with plumbing often and I can't picture what you're talking about.

It is a reducing washer from a 1 1\2 pvc trap to a 1 1\4 bathroom sink drain, there are 2 kinds, one that is hollow and one that is solid, they are the white nylon washers, I will try to post pics of the washers.

Yea, it finally dawned on me earlier. Tailpiece to p-trap bushing. I should have at least one outside in my work trailer. It fits well after modifications? I'll have to do this.

Yea just grind the outside to fit into the hole and chamfer the inside to give the ball a little surface to ride on. It should bend enough to slide into the hole. After I assembled everything I started the truck and it shifted smooth and the shifter play was good and tight but not binding tight.

First pic is the bushings, 1 1/2 x 1 1/4 p-trap reducer bushings. 2nd pic is everything apart and the too large bushing.

I don't have a lathe so I had to rig up something. The bushing on a screwdriver chucked in a drill. Then a file to grind it down. Then for the inside edge I taped the bushing to the end of a screwdriver.
