Default Cat removal question.

Know this has probably been answered many many many times before. I just can not seem to find it anywhere.

I am running long tube headers y in to the cat with no muffler dueled out the back behind the tires with 5 in tips. Now for me it's not loud enough. At idle in the cab or anywhere up front you can barley hear it. And when you get on it it's like low to medium rumble. I want to be able to hear it when I crank it and when I get on it. Now I know it will do this if I take the cat off but my dad keeps telling me you need some back pressure. I told him one bend in the pipe is enough for these trucks.

So what I want to know will it hurt anything if I cut the cat off or gut the cat? I think not but thats why I asked here.

You'll be fine with either gutting or taking off the cat, just depends on your emission laws. As long as you have a h-pipe or x-pipe, or basically some kind of connection between the two pipes it will work. Im running mine with the stock manifolds and stock y pipe with true dual exhaust all the way out. Running flowmaster super 44s with 3inch tips at the end. Nice rumble and growl when you give it the gas. Eventually going with 5inch tips.

It's fine. Gut it so it looks like it's still there.

Even used cats are expensive. That's like someone giving you a bunch of copper pipe, that stuff is worth some coin.

If your looking for a deeper sound you might be happier with a resonator or chambered muffler. That is what gives you the deep tones. You can try running a piece of 5 or 6 inch pipe in the line. Basically like a cherry bomb without the insulation. Or try a cheap chambered muffler and see how you like the sound. Straight pipes will have a more raspy sound like a drag car.

Well i have no muffler on it now and i did have a flowmaster on it before i put a glasspack on it. Its just not loud enough for me. Be being a teenage guy wants loud! But if i do take the cat off and it too loud then ill put on a glasspack that i got laying around, and if its still to loud ill go with another flowmaster.

your CEL should come on if its the 96 in your sig, other then that nothing bad will happen (like others have already said) the CEL is just to tell you your cat is bad.
