Default Cat question

I'm sorry I know most of the questions I ask have been answered a hundred times but I'm on from an iPhone and I can't search. But since my truck has 2 cats...
Do I need both of them??
If I buy a magnaflow cat to replace them do I still need the other one?? Will I lose any power gas mileage etc?? I'm sorry I really don't know a whole lot about cats and emissions and all of that

it just depends on if you have a down stream o2 sensor. and if you will be restricting the flow any if your going to do 2 into 1 but other then that it should have an increase in Power.

I don't really know a whole lot about this type of thing. Right now my exhaust ends right after the cats and it has the exact sound I want. But I want to have dual exhaust. I have the pipe split single to dual but when I put it on (just pipe no muffler or anything) it almost completely mutes the engine again. I don't necessarily want to remove the cats because I'm told that it will kill my gas mileage and power along with sound like a tractor as it is an i6 is this accurate??

Well i have to say just go straight pipe after the cats no mufflers. or just a down spout. I have an I6 and who ever thought about the pissed off tractor sound has never been on a farm i just have a glass pack after my cat and true duals are kind of pointless with the I6 engines.

I get 16-17mpg with 31's and 3.08 gears with no cats, true dual with flowmasters. Torque is there for sure, but the speed has never been. But I don't expect much from the 300 in the speed department.

Sounds great at idle, picks up the tractor sound about 2200 rpm for me

I'm nit running true dual I just split the pipe for the look honestly. And it is straight pipe from the cats back. When I have the straightpipe on I can't hear it though lol

how big are the pipes? honestly you should get better sound with just one pipe the I6 was never meant to be a dual system

your truck is OBDII which means if you remove the cat your check engine light will come on saying your cat is bad. there will be no bad fuel mileage from removing the cat. the only problem is its extremely illegal no matter where you live. you can either just risk it and straight pipe it, gut the cat and weld the shell back in so it looks good. or get an aftermarket one. thats if you dont have emissions testing. if you do, the only option would be an aftermarket one. unless you care to straight pipe it until you need to get tested and pop it back on for the test.

the link below is to trick the o2 sensor so you dont have a check engine light if you care to remove the cat.

2.25. I reused the after- muffler section that goes over the axle. I split it after that so I didn't have to fight with the drivetrain. It sounds just like it did with a muffler v.v
