Default C6 trans.

I just rebuilt the 351w in my 89 F250. I removed the efi and replaced it with a holly 600 carb setup. The old comp. in it was pretty well shot. My question is will the transmission still shift by itself, and if not, what can I do to make it work? Thanks for any help. Tom

89 should be vacuum and governor controlled. You'll need kickdown linkage possibly

Thanks. I had been told that it was controlled by the computer. I hope to have it running soon and get it back on the road.

The C6 was never computer controlled.

Thanks. This is the first ford I have fooled with and am slowly learning it. I really like the truck. By the way, is there some type of switch in the steering column that controls the ignition ? I have to find just the right spot, and hold the lever to get it to turn over.

Yes. the key moves a rod which activates the switch. The switch is partway down the column with a big bundle of wires plugged into it. Yours should be just above the bolts that hold the column in place

Thanks. I'll look for it. I'm trying to get everything fixed before I start using it. It sat up for a long time before I got it, and needs all over work to get it going. If I had been thinking I would have rebuilt a 460 block I have instead of the 351, and put it in there. I like the 351, but it would have been neat to have that big motor in it.
