Default Belt squeak

Hey guys,
I think it's my power steering pump, but my engine has an awfully loud squeak. Is there a way to lube the pulley? Is there a good way to get rid of it? What not to do? My belt is in good condition.

Thanks

I had a loud, consistent squeaking a while back, replacing my belt fixed the problem. But if youre absolutely convinced its not the belt (like its brand new or something), i would look into that. If it isnt the belt, try and locate which pulley it is coming from, and first try some WD-40. If that doesnt work, replace the pulley.

Use a piece of heater hose as a stethescope to listen where it's coming from.

Don't use wd40 unless you remove the pulley first. Wd40 will make the squeek worse if it gets on the belt surface. Same with coolant oil and grease.

Update: I had previously gotten Wd40 on my belt so I idled my truck and put a rag to the belt. I almost lost my finger. FYI not a bright idea haha

There's no getting the wd off. Not even belt dressing will get it all out. The wd will soak into the imperfections of the belt. The belt will wear normally and the squeek will always be there. New belt is the only option. While its off spin the pulleys by hand(the ones that you can) an check for play/crustyness in the bearings. Remember that, before a bearing gets loose and nasty, it gets really tight and rusted.

Yea I think there is a warning sign on your rad. support that says don't touch the belt/fan if engine is running. Especially if you've got a loose rag too. That could've done damage if it got ripped out of your hands.

A good trick to determine belt or pulley squeal,

Pour some water on the belt as it spins, if the squeak goes away then comes back its the belt, if it keeps squeaking then you have an issue with a pulley somewhere.

Works about 90% of the times I've done it.
