I wasn't looking too much at the temp gauge. But when I did see it, it was just a bit hot. Not buried in the red. Just a little warm. I'd say if it is normally at 1/2 then it was less then 3/4 of the needle.

My truck shuts off once my temp reaches 3/4 and will not start unless it sits for an hour or more. I learned this when my water pump finally went. I'm with everyone else on the head issue causing the oil to be in your coolant.

Have you looked for codes?

So I presume you replaced the water pump. Did you have to have head work done as well? Or was the pump all it needed?

You're kidding, right? That was a joke, right? Has to be a joke. Must be a joke, because inserting a piece of wire isn't that hard and most people learned how to count in kindergarten so that shouldn't be a problem either.

There is no need to pull codes in tell you find the leak or why there is oil in the coolant. I wouldn`t even drive it, but you do as you please. Sooner or later it "may" go the other way and have coolant in the oil. If you run the engine and coolant gets to the bearings it will burn them up. If you can`t afford to fix it right and this is your daily driver put some sort of fix a leak in the oil and coolant. Mind you this is not the right way to fix this and I don`t recommend doing it this way. This stuff may plug things that are suppose to be open. This is just a band aid and band aids don`t last long. And put a new pvc in the valve cover. Remember fixing it right is preferred!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

Pulling codes regularly is helpful to see how the truck is running. Of course there is no "water leaking" code.

My interest is what shut down the engine. If its not hot enough to seize then something shut it down. Other than obviously fixing a leaky pump its good practice to check for other symptoms. I do it anytime I fix or service anything.

No work needed on my truck but I drove it home the first time it shut off and immediately changed the pump.
