Default back main seal?

so i am leaking oil from where my engine and transmission meet and my mechanic told me it was my back main and its not worth replacing because of taking out out the tranny because of the high mileage is he right and its not worth it and just let it leak out that little it does or should i go for it and replace it and does anyone else has this same problem and what are you doing to solve it ?

It's not going to heal itself. That must be one lazy mechanic or he doesn't like money. Why wouldn't it be worth it?

look closer...it could be the oil pan gasket too...they are prone to blow out and leak...you gotta look under it with it running and hot from running....

if it runs and drives good I;d replace it....I have done quite a few..

Just because something has a lot of miles on it does not mean it is junk. My father's '80 F150 has almost 300,000 on the odometer and still does not burn any oil...

well miles don't matter as much if the thing runs good.

Agreed....

if it runs and drives good its worth fixing even for a beater...the seal is 30.00 for the good one and only the time to do it...even a 4x4 isnt bad if you think about it and do it right...

Its a Ford They are NEVER not worth fixing unless they are a tangled mess or burnt to the ground, I bought my F150 truck with 150,000 mi and my ranger with 170,000 mi both run very good, I would not think twice about repairing them.
