That's why I never buy autozone any more. Went through 3 starters and 2 water pumps and a couple alternators on my old 77

Did you buy new or remanufactured? It's hit or miss with many parts. My alternator is still going strong. Just changed the AutoZone alt on my Blazer, lasted 8 years. But my truck starter keeps getting heat soaked. I think a heat shield would really help out. AutoZone has a good rewards program and they're open until midnight so I use them exclusively.

I don't like to buy from Autozone, but sometimes will depending on the need and the fact that we have a 24 hour "Super Autozone" in town. That helps for late night exchanges. My biggest problems with Autozone Parts are getting the right parts the first time. I've gotten to where I usually go to Oreilly Auto Parts. I bought some front end parts for my kid's Toyota Pick Up and had a choice between Borg Warner for Big Money or the store brand. The parts guy turned the screen around, didn't say a word, and pointed to the section of the screen where the store brand part was and the note under the store brand said "Manufactured by Borg Warner". He sold me the store brand for less than half of the Borg Warner with a lifetime warranty. He then opened a Borg Warner Box and the store brand box, laid both parts side by side and showed me the stamped part number and both parts were identical in every way. I also like to buy re-manufactured parts. They've already been on the road and been rebuilt. Less chance of mounting ears being bad and what was broke has been replaced. I think there's more of a chance of a new part being bad than them replacing a broke part with a broke part. I've never had a bad re-manufactured alternator or starter, but I've had several bad "new" ones.

We don't have Oreilleys. Our AutoZone used to be 24 hours. I liked that.

Also on our trucks you need to make sure they give you the right starter for the type transmission you have auto or manual because there is a difference between the two.

One other thing that I have found on a few new starters, some of the new ones that I have bought have had a "Starter Shim Kit" or said that a shim kit was recommended. I can only assume that the starters needing a shim kit must have some manufacturing issues and their mounting surfaces may or may not be to spec. I've never bought a re-manufactured starter that needed to be shimmed.

the start is a reman, i think both of them have been reman. as far as the alt im not sure. i plan on updating the audio in it so i did opt for the little bit bigger alt on my truck. the only problem i have really had majorly is the mounts breaking off. i like autozone, just getting tired of having to replave a ele part about every six months even tho it is free. just about every part on my truck has came from there, the entire cooling system. u joints all the ele parts. i get the right part the first time about 9 times out of 10. i did have to go back a few times for the u joint. but that was cause my dad put a drive shaft from a f250 in. the size of the joints are a lil diff. i had to bring the slip yoke in to get the right one. i love their rewards program. that has came in handy a good bit trying to restore this this truck. right when i think i have it ready for paint and body i get a issue with something else lol. speaking of i have to make a post about something else
