Default Alternator issues

Hi all..

Ive just finished tearing out my 302 Windsor with factory EFI on my 1985 F150 project

Ive dropped in a new Summit Racing 302 and new C6 transmission.. Ive gone with the FiTech HP400 injection system.. As here in Chattanooga we have emissions test still.. So needed a CAT and Lambda sensor

A lot of the wiring that was fitted under the hood at the factory is now redundant.. So in time I'll sort through it and trim it out..

But for now the truck runs great.. Except....

My brand new alternator wont charge the battery.. Ive fitted a new voltage regulator.. And still nothing

Next I ran an ignition 12v + feed to terminal S
Terminal A to the 12v + on the battery
Terminal F to the feild terminal on the alternator
Grounded the alternator and then the last connection on the alternator to the 12v + side of the started solenoid (the 10 gauge cable)

But the alternator isnt kicking out any power..

Its a brand new alternator with serpintine belt

Anyone?

Regards

Allan

Why is the alternator new? What exactly was wrong with the previous alt? Did you change it at the same time as the engine? What brand/PN/source is the replacement alt? Did you test it the same way you tested the previous one?

Why didn't you replace the whole alternator, if it's brand new and not working?

That's wrong, and it could be why the alt burned out.

What type is it, and what's its output (in Amps)? Is it a 1G with remote VR, or 2G with external VR? What wiring harness are you using for this alternator? The original for the truck, or something you built, or bought?

What exactly do you mean? It grounds through its mounting points, which need to be clean.

Thank you for the swift responses..

I replaced the alternator while rebuilding the truck.. I put in new crate motor/transmission/exhaust/gas tank/fuel system/alternator and power steering pump etc

The old altenator was on a V belt.. This new set up needs a serpintine belt

The original wiring had the voltage regulator wired up to F=field, A to battery and the main 10 gauge cable to the starter solenoid..

That didnt work so I bought a new voltage regulator and wired it up as above.. And that dont work either

There is a terminal on the back of the alternator marked ground.. So I ran a new ground to it.. And still nothing

Ill find the details on the new alternator.. It was from O'Reilys.. And sold as a Ford Mustang/F150

The label photo doesn't indicate a searchable part number, or output, or even the type. What YEAR & engine Mustang is it supposed to fit? Post a photo of its back side, with the connections. No matter what, that alternator is NOT big enough for an e-fan; much less, 2. You should put a mechanical fan back on.

You say you put a new VR on, but your photos only show an old one that's NOT ATTACHED (grounded). Its steel case must be connected to the alternator case; either via grounded metal, or a dedicated wire. Post clear pics of the alternator wiring. Try to connect it as it was originally. How exactly are you deciding if it works?
