altenator problems

Question altenator problems

i have had two altenators go out in a month i am wondering if my altenator plug hanrnesses are bad or some thing or it is just beacuase i have just put used ones in and they go out should i buy a new harness with a new altenator my last altenator shorted out and started smoking

It may be the harness or it may be the battery. If your battery is bad the alternator has to supply power to the engine instead of the battery and it's not designed to do that, it's only supposed to charge the battery.

With the alternator shorting out I would think it's a harness problem.

I have had rebuilt alternator that have fried my wiring harness, after replacing the alternator I tried to hook up my battery and had quit a light show. I know it was the alternator because I rechecked all of the connections after shorting out the battery. The parts store tried to blame the battery as bad because I had to replace the battery at the same time as I brought back the alternator for replacement.
