Your timing isn't 10 degrees retarded from the factory. It's 10 degrees advanced.

Fair enough. Is 10 considered TDC? I'm assuming this type of procedure is 'feelable'

Sure, it helped the throttle a bit and on hills, haven't been able to see any mpg improvements (10+- mpg) cause it's an ice rink up here, so hubs are locked at all times.

When you do a modification such as advancing the timing, can you feel in the ride the improvements it has given.

Also fair enough, we've got -20 weather today here AND it's raining. Doomed.

Timing lights aren't that expensive if you just want the basic one. Local autoparts stores should have them on the shelf. They are a great tool to have around.
