Default Advanced Ignition Timing?

Has anyone done this before? I heard it helps performance and mpg.

A lot of guys have been telling me that my 94 460 efi was retarded at 10 degrees from the factory for emissions - that being said I was also told to advance my timing to 12 degrees and it will get me a mpg or two.

Is this theory or fact for any of you serious tuners.

I don't know jack about 460s but I know that the 5.0/5.8 can do this and it'll help:

I thought about doing it to my F-150 but,"I never drive it ever and I don't have a timing light so why not leave it." lol

That's my dilema too , no light. I figured it'd cost 1hr labor tops? Not like they're using any specific parts.

Has anyone actually done this? Or have any statements on it?

Can't speak for the 460, but if you search the forum for timing bump, you'll find dozens of us running between 12 and 16 degrees timing. Yes it works! Get good copper plugs. The fancy plugs have shown no advantage for any of us that I remember. I'm running the 4.9 and have done this on the 5.0 and the 5.8.

Wicked! I appreciate the response, will definitely look into a shop doing it with my alignment this Monday.

I'm paranoid they wont touch it and be like 'alright its done'.
