Default Ac help

So on Monday I went to use my AC in the 90 degree weather and all I got was air. The temperature does not get cold at all. It seems a bit cooler on the "VENT" setting. The AC did work in March when we had 80 degree weather.

Any idea where I can start with this problem. I would like to try to do this my self to save some money.

I have a 94 XL 4.9L with 133,000 miles.

Thanks.

Does the compressor kick in and out really quick? If so you are probably low on freon.

Agreed. I would add some refrigerant.

Throw a set of gauges on it.

I think if he had a set of gauges he'd know what might be wrong with the a/c...

Yeah, but I don't change my tire with a screwdriver.

In the words of my A/C instructor " you don't add refrigerant" it mid be cycled and the pressure balanced. The gauges are cheap. If you over fill you will blow seals etc. especially with an older system. Check to see if your clutch is cycling as the others recommended. If not jump the pressure switch on the accumulator tank . The clutch and pump should run, check to see if it gets cold. Don't run it longer than a min this way. Pick up a gauge set at harbor freight and check your high and low side pressures. There are instructions with the tools. Otherwise pI think AutoZone has loaners. Then you can decide if it needs more. You may want to flush the system which clogs just like a radiator or oil system. You can even change to synthetic at the same time.

Thats what my instructer says as well, and its what I shoudve done when I was fixing mine as well..but I put some in it anyway, didnt do anything, so I took it all apart, flushed out all the lines, replaced o-rings, orifice, and put some 134a in her. Still cold today.

And if you decide to flush it and start over I would put enviro safe 12a in it, it's compatible with r12 and 134a and it gets way colder. I got my vent temp down to 36*f with it 90* outside with this stuff. Link below. http://www.es-refrigerants.com/
