Default ac compressor

My 94 f150 5.0 sat for a year before I bought it. The guy selling said the AC worked before he parked it waiting for head work. The clutch is not engadging on the compressor. I checked fuses and wires. All seems good, fan and heater work. Should I spend the 80+ for the clutch replacement, or are there test I can do to make sure that's the problem?

I did not have to do any head work, it was only a freeze plug. Any ideas would be greatful!

Check the refrigerant compression? Won't work if the pressure sensor isn't reading any refrigerant.

I have limited experience with AC. Could you do that without AC tools? How about a recharge kit from a parts store?

Recharge kit will give you an idea how much freon there is, if any. But if it leaked out you will need to track it down cause you will have the same problem again soon.

My roommate has a used recharge kit for his 03 f150. Ill try that to see if there is pressure. If not maybe ill take it to a shop. One in town says $20 and they will check it.

For 40 bucks you can buy gauges from harbor freight and do it yerself. Ac is easier than you think.

Low pressure switch might be bad. It's mounted on the AC drier.

I was intimidated by AC for years. Last month I took the leap and converted my 92 f150 from r12 to r134. Man it is a piece of cake. With a set of guages and a vacuum pump you can fix pretty much anything on there. The handy dandy recharge kit with the cheapo guage will tell you if its low but if it is then you really need to get some guages and borrow a vacuum pump and fix it properly.
