Default 92 Odometer wiring issue

Ok so i had to replace my VSS in my truck to fix the speedometer, Odometer and the hard shifting. nothing was working when i got the truck and it didnt have a stereo in it BUT i noticed the yellow and red wires for the stereo were twisted together.
If i untwist them the odometer shuts off. and every time i shut the truck off and turn back on it defaults back to 166xxx miles.
Does anyone have any input on this? I know its one way to keep low miles haha but id like to be able to keep track

So... did you check fuses? You've got one circuit feeding another with the twisted wires.

yeah ive checked all the fuses under the dash. havent checked any relay's or anything under the hood. im thinkin one of the PO's accidentally disconnected a wire from the harness when pulling the stereo out..
I would assume that since the odometer always resets to the same number it must not have a constant 12V to keep it in the memory..
Anyone have or know where to get a diagram of the cluster wiring??

so your red and yellow wires are your +12v (battery) and your +12v (ignition). my guess is your 12v battery lead is being used to feed your odo right now. you've got some weird electrical issues goin on here

yeah i got to look at all the connectors behind the heater controls and stereo. theres alot of soddering on the wires. so im gonna try and run a new constant wire to the 12v wire that turns the odometer on and off. hopefully it works. if so ill update

The odometer should keep its memory even without power. You have other problems.

well found out what the problem is. the number 8 fuse wasnt working right. after lots of searching and help from a previous ford technician, found a diagram for the cluster.
there was so many aftermarket clips behind the dash i had twice as many wires as there should have been. so i found the right wire #54. it comes from the fuse panel and has a factory splice (s214) that goes to the stereo and the other part of the #54 wire goes to the cluster. its a light green w/ yellow stripe for anyone who is curious.
Going to take it for a test drive tomorrow and hopefully the memory in the odometer is working properly
