92 E4OD shift problem
I have a 92 with the 300CID and the E4OD and the shift quality is terrible and I cant figure out why and a search here turned up nothing that will help me
When you go from park to drive or rev it almost kills the engine and the 2-3 shift especially makes the whole truck shake like it is slamming into gear after hanging up for a second.
The 1-2 and 3-4 shifts are also bad but sometimes it is all worse than other times
I laid on the ground last night with a flashlight looking for a speed sensor or vacuum modulator and cant find anything
Pleasse help I have been trying to fix this for about a week

The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) is in the differential, there is no vacuum modulator. I have also seen the MLPS (manual lever position sensor) give funny problems like this.
To really diagnose it though you will need a scan tool to see if the computer thinks something is wrong and commanding high line pressure or if it is inside the tranny. You could get a good idea if you have a pressure gauge, there is a 1/8" NPT port behind the bellhousing on the drivers side that is line pressure. If line pressure goes to 150 or so psi on light throttle shifts the computer thinks there is a problem an commanding high line. Significantly less than that, best guess would be valvebody. Line pressure can approach 300psi in reverse so make sure you have an appropriate gauge.
The accumulator valvebody, which controls shift feel is very touchy on the E4OD. I would be cautious to say because it was rebuilt the problem is not in the trans. It does not sound like the problem is in the gear box, but my guess is you have a control problem, either the computer or valvebody.
Hope this helps, but diagnosing over a forum is difficult at best.

The only sensor I see in the diff is the RABS sensor. Is this what you are talking about?
Also I have been unable to pull codes
I get the dreaded no codes- 000 and cant figure out why
The reader works because I used it on my 94 Explorer
Thanks

mines a 92 e40d too I had that problem when i blew the fuse for the speed sensor and my speedo stoppped working it was chirpin em from 1 to 2 but mine was a easy fix maybe the computer isnt reading the speed, does your check engine light flash, and the speed sensors on the top drivers side of the trans if i remember thats a 4x4 though.
