I have alot of early to mid 90s f-150s with trans problems shifting hard or eratic at the shop where i work, replacing the speed sensor has fixed alot of them, even with new or rebuilt trannys. The speed sensor is in the rear differential at the top, they are fairly cheap to replace and easy also,I would try this first before getting to deep into diagnosing it much further. Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.
