Default '91 E4OD trans

So I've got a '91 F150, pretty sure it's got the E4OD trans. Anyways, I was under it last week, noticed I've got this hole in the bottom of my trans, on what I think would be the bell housing. Is there supposed to be a plug in this? Or is it normal?

if im not mistaken, theres suppose to be a inspection cover over the hole.... all it is, is a little piece of aluminum that covers the hole to protect from getting mud/water in bad places.... my truck has the same thing (but mine's a 5 speed) and mine doesnt have the cover either.... im gonna try to find one at a junkyard

Yeah, I've got a 92 with an E40D and its missing that thing too :P it hasn't hurt it so far, so don't even worry about it. If you're at a junkyard and happen to see one, grab it, but it probably won't even make a difference.

Thanks guys. I was a little concerned about it, but saw it wasn't threaded, leading me to making this.

I'm good for now. Hopefully screwing the liner on my tailgate down more stops the one loud rattle I've had. And I need to buy another clip for the fuel line at the fuel filter so I can snug the line up more to the filter on the "out" side. It's about 1mm from fitting into the bracket in both places, it's only in one now.

Alright, I'm actually serious about getting this thing now. I'm pretty sure the reason my trans slips for a day or 2 after I get into mud or water is that hole. I'm fine unless I basically touch the frame to water, after that it slips for a little bit and goes back normal. Can I buy this thing at Advance? I'm searching for it right now, but have the slightest clue what the real name is for it. I'm going to the junkyard tomorrow, or autozone, depending on which places have it

lol you're funny....

that has NOTHING to do with that...you're tranny slipping is more due to the fluid being wasted and needing flushed or the tranny is worn and when the fluid gets hot it gets thinner thus more slop in the clutch packs and less pressure on them...

that hole is for draining the converter via the drain plug that is just teh access hole to get to it...

Well that makes me feel a lot worse than before. But it's weird, the thing is fine as long it stays above water. the second it drops in it starts slipping... Whatever, I know you know what you're talking about. Thanks for setting me straight!
