I guess it must be under the hood on the inner fender (driver side) pretty close to firewall.

Do you see the air box (where the air filter goes)? Just behind it, toward the windshield, you'll see a black plastic box with some wires running up under it. There are 2 or 3 relays under there, and on the end near the fender, you'll see the connector you need. It has a black cap on it, and the whole thing snaps off the black box so you can pull the cap and use it.

Yes, by the air box there's a plastic holder they are in. It should be labeled "EEC Test" or "Diagnostic".

don't worry, Sean will be along to give you the link. Or you can search, or blindly read some of the other posts, because pulling codes is a big "to do" with most of the problems we write about on this forum and the link will give the exact instructions.

Your truck should have the check engine light. When you turn on the key but not running it should light up, if it doesn't the bulb is blown. This is the link to checking for codes:
https://www.f150forum.com/f10/how-retrieve-trouble-codes-obdi-10907/
If you don't feel like changing the bulb you can read them with the voltmeter.
