Default 87 4spd headache

I have a the 4 spd od. Just so ure not confused its a 5 speed its 1,2,3 od. Well today i was trying to move it around a little i was holding the shifter and broke this little pin in the top cover. I got it out but what is it called and where can i get one from. I dont wana pull a trans just to take that out if i can get a new one. Also is there sopossed to be a gasket for the top cover. When i took it off there wasnt one but it wasnt ever leaking. Also what is the gasket called between where the tailshadt mounts to the trans. It leakes really bad there.

You could try fordparts.com and find your trans and a blow up of it with all the part numbers and names, and prices too . Original ford or motorcraft parts.

Thats the gearshift lever pin, its what keeps the lever centered when shifting. I have no idea where to find it, maybe on line or you can try a transmission place. As for the gasket, I would use some RVT to fix the leak, I think its 5 bolts to separate the extension housing. Be sure its in neutral before separating.

Just a precaution so that when you re assemble it the gears are still synchronized. If you were to take something apart in first gear and moved something and re assembled it, there is possibility for the transmission to bind itself from being stuck in 2 gears at the same time. The gear shift assembly is what prevents that from happening.

It will separate when you pull it apart. Use a catch pan or drain all the gear oil out first.

You usually can't find a housing gasket anywhere. RTV will work just fine, I do it all the time. I recently gave my three old 4 speeds to my cousin to scrap. I would have had that pin.
