Default 5.0 SD to 5.8 MAF Conversion

So I pulled the 302 from my truck a while back and was going to do some work on it, clean it up, and put it back in with a new cam, headers, maybe some GT40 heads, etc. Mild stuff. But i figured today, that if i am after more power, and planning on spending money anyways, why not just swap in a 351 and convert it to mass air at the same time? Shouldnt be too terribly hard I dont think.

The main thing right now is this. Will the 351 bolt in place of my 302? same motor mounts, same transmission, etc? What about the engine accessories? Will they transfer from the 302 to the 351?

And finally what about the engine harness. Can I get a harness from a 94-95 MAF truck... 5.0 or 5.8 and use it for the 5.8... or does it have to be 5.8 specific? I was thinking they were the same... probably need a harness from a 5 spd truck since my truck has an AOD and the 94-94s would be AODE or something else. What do you all think?

You are pretty much on track. Would be better to use a 5speed set up if you plan on keeping the AOD. Or can swap 4r70w in with auto computer. But most likely involve swapping or adding a trans harness.

The accessory bracket will work with the 351. Alt bracket is driect bolt on, and the PS/AC bracket is pretty much same,, just need to mount in different mounting hole. When I swapped to 351, I used all the 302 accessory brackets without any problems. You could keep it SD if you keep cam stock specs, and not worry about MAF conversion.

You can't get 5.8 specific, there isn't a '94-'95 5.8 MAF truck. Just 5.0 automatic.

'96 5.8 is MAF, and OBDII. '95 California is also MAF.
