Default 4x4 Question.

I have a 90 xlt lariat 4x4 with an aod transmission with auto hubs. I was wondering whether or not the front drive shaft should spin while in 2wd?

I don't think it should spin in 2wd if your hubs are unlocking properly. I know it doesn't with manual hubs.

I thought I read somewhere you had to reverse 10 feet to unlock them, and they lock when the 4x4 is selected?

The driveshaft should not spin in 2wd. If it does then either the transfer case or hubs aren't unlocking. Yes you have to back up to unlock the hubs.

I would suggest going to manual hubs... No its not supposed spin with the truck in 2wd and the hubs unlocked it's an easy swap and it's pretty cheap too

much appreciated guys. Lots of new problems as of my last post. Once it's running again I'll take some pictures of the swap to manual hubs!
