I posted in the drivetrain thread, but thought it might get more responses here.

I’m trying to fit a new water pump on my 1992 4.9L F150. The brass pipe that attaches to the heater line is getting in the way, getting blocked by this housing surrounding the alternator. I can’t get the bolt holes to line up. Has anyone run into this problem?

 

Can you possibly turn that brass pipe that is in the way? I remember having to turn a pipe when installing the water pump in my '88 with the 4.9 engine.

 

I have had to bend the pipe to fit but never had a problem with any bolts not lining up.You may want to try another brand pump.

 

Would that wreck the seal? How is the heater pipe sealed? I already wrecked one replacement pump trying to bend and turn the pipe. Just in case i tried it out, and it did leak after i beat it up too much.

 

What did you use to bend it?

 

By just turning the pipe it certainly could break the seal and cause a leak. I was worried my new water pump might leak but I got lucky and mine didn't.. I never had to bend my pipe, just turn it.

I just grabbed the pump tightly and turned it by hand.

 

I seem to remember putting something like a very large screw driver in the pipe and applying pressure to bend it.

 

how much is clearance requiring? 1 inch? 2 inches? cut it off and flare the remaining stub, use a new hose (might need one anyway)
Otherwise you can buy the right waterpump you may be using one from a 94+ with a different bracket and fan
Youll know if you have th right year range if your fan clutch will thread on (if original)

You could also try a remanufactured pump. Atleast you know that it once fit and worked before being remanufactured.
