Default 4.9 Engine Fan

Been fighting a hot running 4.9 with the record temps this last week. Finally figured out the problem. The PO had a non ac engine fan installed on a truck with ac. Switched the belt around at the water pump and it runs cool again. Had no idea there were two possible engine fans for the 4.9.

There isn't. The radiator and fan shroud are different.

It's a heavy duty fan clutch, not necessarily only for a/c trucks.

There are two different belt routes for the water pump, the ac route spins the pump and fan counter clockwise, the non ac spins clockwise. So I had my ac truck routed correctly and the fan pushed air into the radiator, I had to reverse it to pull air. I will look when I get home but there has to be a couple fan options with differing blade pitchs.

It took a minute to figure this out.

No man, the water pump spins the same direction no matter which way you route the belt. That's why the crank pulley has grooves and the water pump pulley does not. I have had mine ran with and without a/c, the pump always goes counterclockwise. The belt only wraps the opposite sides of the pulleys.

Solve future fan issues all together and go with dual efans. Saves gas and increases performance. The HD fan realy drags on the motor. You won't notice until the efans are installed. Instant noticeable power gain.

If the pic attaches look at the routing.

Yes same as mine, the pump always goes counterclockwise. The belt only wraps the opposite sides of the pulleys, like I said.

So I just switched the routing at the water pump(to the red) and it changes the direction it spins.
