Most importantly you will also need frame mounts for a v8, the -6 mounts directly to the x-member.

What are the frame mounts and will they need to welded into place?

frame mount bolt in and are for the V8 motor mounts to sit on...

you'll need to find a donor truck and rob them to get them...

If your going to do the swap I would probablly just go to a 351 while your at it. Not going to notice a heck of a lot going from a 4.9 to a 5.0

whats up with 4.9 is it lagging or just not what you want....ive owned 3 in my lifetime and been some tuff as- motors .. its a 300 cubic inch motor with more torque then 5.0 302 if you truely want to change it go craigslist and look for a cheap truck and go from there

Before you bother swapping over the motors, you really need to look at what you use the truck for. The 4.9L is a hoss of a motor. I love mine for rock crawling, and a enough torque to pull over a house. Its just not a go fast for cheap motor.

Definately wouldnt bother with a 302. the 351 will be a little harder to find but would be worth the extra 49 cubes. Just make sure to get all the parts you will need off a donor vehicle and if you can have complete donor vehicle that would be better. Tranny bolts right up. Small block conversion is alot easier than bigblock.
