Default 2wd to 4wd conversion

I have a 1992 2wd f150 with an i6. I would like to convert it to 4x4. What would i need to do this? I know i would need a transfer case and new front end parts. How hard is this? What is everything i need to know to do this?

sheesh search it and spend a little time reading, this question has been asked, answered, and written up many a time.

You'll need trans, transfer case, front end, driveshaftS, and more!

I know MOST of what i will need. My uncles friend owns a salvage yard so all i have to do is put a word out on what parts i will need. Now, how about steering? Will any of that change with the 4x4 conversion?

trans, transfer, transfer shift linkage, inside floor covering. front & rear drive shafts, trans cross member, front axle assembly,

i would recommend in keeping the same trans, just get the 4x4 version. it is easier that way.

Could i just get a tailshaft housing, transfer case adapter and transfer case from a 4x4 and swap them with the parts on my current 2x4 transmission?

yeah you could but you would have to completely tear down the trans and replace the main shaft of the trans. with a 4x4 main shaft.

that is on a manual trans i'm not sure about an auto

item 17 in the break down, to get it in and out you have to completely tear the trans down to an empty shell

So it would be easiest just to get a new transmission of the same type, but for 4x4?
