My ipad mini install in my 13 with myford
#71
It's cool I guess,it's just whenever anyone does these sorts of mods it's always "it works awesome but..........." and a list of things that no longer work, or work if you do "this" or "that" I just want my stuff to work. Also I hate "I" anything and Apple in general, although the iphone is a good phone.....for girls

IPad mini install
I want one! How do we proceed?!
It would bug the crap out of me. I would have to find a way to transfer the buttons.
After looking back at the other pictures I took and compared them to yours, it's obvious that the 4.2 circuit board is bigger then the mft board. Look at the cd slot cutout. On the 4.2" there is more circuit board above the cd slot.
You may be able to fit the tablet between the board and bezel once the case is trimmed and the four button grid is removed.

Hotcat..... I sent you a PM. I'm attempting a similar mod, mainly with relocating the 4.2 inch screen down to that left cubby hole the way you did it.
Did you have to extend any wires for the left side location? I remember you saying that you may have needed to if you kept it on the right side.
I have the factory backup camera feeding into my 4.2 inch screen so don't want to lose that after my ipad install is finished.
Thanks!

I know exactly what your talking about. That's what I was trying to say in the other thread. I think the four button part makes the circuit board taller, so the 4.2" bezels hvac portion won't fit the mft casing. I have not tried cross fitting them to confirm but am curious. If it does work or you trim the mft case to fit you can recess the upper buttons with the slack in the ribbon cable, and make the side slider. The relocation of the original screen to the brake controller spot is still handy. You can put an old iPhone in the spot were the 4.2" screen was after it's recessed and the table is made removable. That way there's not a big hole when the tablet is removed. The four buttons will be eliminated regardless because the are below the ribbon cable and are directly behind the screen opening.
Also, make sure if you unplug the TBC you reflash the IPC or a error message will be displayed.

Forum member TKO use to make a bolt-in iPad dash panel for your dash, but I believe he quit making them. Send him a PM. I know theres a lot of posts of people being upset with him. To my understanding, it's the time frame and communication people had issues with, as far as I know he always delivered. Never did business with him so I can't really say, just going by what I've read.
There are plenty of pictures of IPad dashes in this forum or on the web. There are also a lot of how-to guides for making your own dash. Your style dash being the most popular.
Just takes patients and the right supplies.

Most of the buttons lost when doing this mod are still accessible from the steering wheel controls. You only need to plug in the original panel to access the settings, adjust the clock and set the eq.
