Posting from my tablet and I can't make out the badge, but even if that is an f350 with a diesel ( maybe you removed the badge), your truck would be max 6900 lbs. By the looks of it yours is an XL 6.2, which weighs almost the same as your wife's truck. By your "standards" that rules out towing 7/8000lbs.

Lets see, I have had diesel 1 ton crew cab duallys for years, 92 was the first of 6 of them. With 4x4 they scale at 7300 pounds with fuel. Trailers I was towing started at 12K. Last one was 16K.
Never had an issue towing double the weight of the truck. Pulled through the Rocky Mountains in CO, WY and MT. Was well under the rating of the truck. Trailers always had good brakes.
I would have zero issue pulling 10K with a properly equipped F-150 Ecoboost with Max tow. Trailer by law would have brakes.
I have been pulling travel trailers and fifth wheels for more than 30 years now. I just stay under the trucks GCWR and GVWR. I also inspect my equipment before I pull.

7000/8000 Lbs
Mostly heat issues from long periods of travel. Replaced multiple turbo's 2.7's and 3.5's Down time for me was the deal breaker. Around town and 3-4 hour trips was no problem. I'm sure ford will get it figured out but I'll wait a couple years until I purchase another Boosted 6 cyl. I'll stick with the 6.2's and 6.7's for towing anything over 6000 Lbs. Plus I like the truck to weigh at least as much as what I'm pulling..![Wink](https://www.f150forum.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
