firing order????
Why am I getting conflicting information about the firing order for a 1995 f150 5l. Everything I have found tells me that it has it's own firing order which is different than all other 5l engines. I can't understand how this is possible when they all have the same block.

According to the Haynes manual, the firing order did in fact change for 1995. Your firing order matches what the 5.8 always had. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 should be your firing order.
I'm guessing by changing the camshaft, they were able to change the firing order.

Yup I think they changed it to the HO in 94 - my 94 5.0 has the new firing order as well.

How do I know which engine has which camshaft? 94 to 96 all have engine code N as 8th digit in vin. Any identification marks on block . Thanks for your replies and assistance.

All I could tell you is check your firing order by looking at the spark plug wires on the distributor cap. Follow the #1 wire(front wire on passenger side) up to the cap. Then follow the wires around in a counterclockwise direction. Front to back on passenger side is numbered 1-2-3-4. Front to back on driver side is numbered 5-6-7-8.
The old firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. The new firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.

In late 94, 95 and 96 they installed the HO cam. It has the same firing order as the 351. You have a 95, so you have an HO cam.
The firing order should be on a sticker on your rad saddle.
What they did was change the order of which cylinders would be on which stroke by changing the camshaft lobes so what was a power stroke became an intake stroke and did the opposite to the cylinder on the other side. Confusing, but it works. End result is it will run smoother at high rpm's. The higher it can rev smoothly, the more power and torque it can produce, so - high output (HO).

My 94 4X4 is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 with counter clockwise rotation. I followed the #1 plug wire to the dist cap and then followed the wire to its left back to a plug. It will be 5 (old) or 3 (new). The #1 plug is passenger side front.
