Default ac question

Removed orifice tube and found very fine metal dust mixed in with the other crap that came out of it. It was only visible when in the sun. Should I replace the compressor?

I replaced the dryer and the orifice tube and will be flushing the system in order to convert to 134a from the r12. Reason for the switch is r12 is not locally available.

If the compressor is still pumping and not making a lot of racket, let it ride.

A lot of that is from manufacturing and you could run another 10 years, just flush the condenser and evap core and all the lines, install new orifice and accumulator change all the line o-rings add the proper amount of PAG oil and recharge.

That also means the orifice tube is doing it's job and stopping that trash from destroying your AC system. RNL is right on with his recommendations.

Thanks for the advice. I'm gonna give it a shot and see how it goes.
