I have my Light bar wired up to a relay under the hood and a switch on the right hand side of the dash. I used a Missile switch.
the relay i used was i think for an ac? im not sure lol it took me a good day to rummage through the boxes to find the right style of relay i wanted.
as for the wires I ran the behind the interior trim.

So I've heard I need to put in a fuse and relay. I understand the fuse but why a relay?

In the collectors case, he's running 2 240w lightbars. That's allot of juice for a single switch to operate. A relay is a remote battery cable per say and takes the load off of the switch. That's the smart way to run a high draw load.

4 55w bulbs = 220w. Can't hurt. I would.

I ran a relay for one of two reasons, 1. less wires to run, i just need one going out to relay under the hood. 2. as unit505 said its much safer and you have less of a chance at burning up something important.
you Really should run a relay system even with just 2 55 watt halogens.
