Default can't get codes

I can't get the codes from my 95 I6. I've tried everything I could find in my books and online but nothing.
So I broke down and bought a code reader. When I turn it on, I hear relays and stuff clicking, so I know the reader is talking to the EEC, but I don't get any codes or any indication the EEC is talking to the reader.

Any Ideas?

The relays and stuff is the computer running a diagnostic.

Is there any chance at all that you're getting code 1-1-1 ?

111 is system pass. The computer has no error codes to report.

Hope it's not a bad computer.
The reader shows OOO when I turn it on. Relays click, but the reader never changes.

One of the things i ran into when i first started using my code reader was that the two connections on the wiring harness were dirty. After i gave them a good cleaning the code reader worked fine.

The other thing ... i missed one of the steps in the instruction manual that came with the reader. Sometimes you overlook an important detail whe you're first starting out with something new.

Could well be that the ECM is pooched but it's a good idea to go back and double check all of the steps first to see if you missed anything along the way.
