It matters HOW the frame & block are grounded... The highest-current devices on the truck are the starter & alternator, so they need the best grounding to work right. That's why Ford ran a continuous cable from the battery to the block. Since it ran past the frame anyway, the most-sensible way to ground the frame was with the tab soldered in the middle. If (for some reason) you don't want to do that, you can run a 2nd wire to the frame, but don't let it interfere with the block ground in any way.

OK that makes sense. The cable that was on it before was not grounded to the frame. It went directly from the battery to the block and then to the starter.
